Information
A punk double-bill with Pure Adult and Cassels!
They often perform in small, underground venues in Brooklyn, and their album, recorded in various basements and homes, perfectly captures this live energy. With 11 tracks, the record breathes the wild spirit of a bootleg. Their leftist political ideas and DIY mentality are clearly present, but they do not try to convey their message in a preaching manner.
Instead, they use humour and absurd imagery to share their philosophies. Cassels Cassels knows how to find humour in the seemingly inevitable downfall of the human race. This may not be the most conventional approach to an album, but the duo, consisting of brothers Jim and Loz Beck, has already proven to be anything but traditional. Growing up in Oxfordshire, they developed a unique sound characterised by quirky instrumentation and punk-like vocals.
With two LPs, a compilation of EPs and singles, Cassels have moved beyond strict genre boundaries. They have built a loyal fanbase and received much acclaim along the way. Their influences vary from the post-punk of Shellac to the indie of Modest Mouse, making it difficult to pigeonhole the duo.
Since their debut EP, 'Hating Is Easy', they continue to evolve, tackling subjects from social anxieties to alienated politics.
