Polish chapel
As a gesture of gratitude for the liberation in 1944, Breda gifted this chapel to the Polish community in 1954. The image in the chapel is the Polish Madonna, based on the Icon of Our Lady of Częstochowa.
The Polish Chapel is located on a large field at the corner of Claudius Prinsenlaan and Wilhelminasingel. As a gesture of gratitude for the liberation in 1944, Breda presented this chapel to the Polish community in 1954. The image in the chapel is the Polish Madonna, based on the Icon of Our Lady of Czestochowa.
The design is by the architectural firm Siebers and Van Dael. The sandstone frame is by sculptor Frans Verhaak. The Madonna was created by artist Jan Gladinnes. The image is constructed from mosaic tiles and inlaid with gemstones and gold leaf.
