Immersive Escapes Breda: Borgesius Mystery
During the May holiday, the first room of Immersive Escapes Breda opens: ‘Borgesius Mystery’. This escape room sets itself apart from others because it is larger and longer, and features an immersive storyline. A true experience!
Those standing in front of the school building cannot suspect the dark events taking place in the basement. Mrs. van Helmond, the strict teacher of 'the Borgesius', no longer feels comfortable in the building. It is as if something or someone is watching her. Wandering through the school, remaining students are sent on a mission by Mrs. Van Helmond to discover what is going on. As the minutes tick away, let’s hope they can not only unravel the dark secret but also escape alive.
The creator of the escape room is former teacher from the Breda Newmancollege and playwright Remco Stadhouders. After a 22-year teaching career, he felt it was time for a new challenge. During the coronavirus pandemic, he had time to think and the storyline for the escape room emerged. And if you can dream it, you can do it, thought Stadhouders, and he made his dream a reality.
Stadhouders on his first escape room: ‘I enjoy playing escape rooms myself and there are many fun ones in the Netherlands, but I often missed depth in the storyline, and usually, you find yourself outside again after an hour. I wanted to create something that immerses you more in the story and the experience, hence the addition of ‘immersive’. To achieve that, I created a longer playtime by making the rooms larger and more extensive than is usually the case. It had to be a real experience for me, where you find a new twist around every corner.’ And afterwards, you can chat comfortably over a drink and a snack in our bar.
The first players have tried out a round in the Borgesius Mystery and were extremely enthusiastic. Stadhouders: ‘They found the storytelling elements, theming, and puzzles really cool and had a few useful tips for adjustments. I will incorporate those in the coming period and then I will open my doors.’
The Breda resident is proud to open his escape room in his hometown: ‘I have lived in the city for over 23 years and wouldn’t want to leave. It’s a lovely city where there is always something to experience, and I think it’s great to add a new attraction with my escape room to the already vibrant offer.’
