Link to the past
The building of De Boterhal was originally called Het Witte Lam. Prince Philip Willem van Nassau decreed in the 17th century that this was the only place where meat could be traded. This is reflected in the ox skulls on the facade.
But the real eye-catcher is visible at the top of the facade. This statue of St. George and the dragon was created by Walter Pompe and installed in 1772. At that time, the St. George guild had its guild room on the upper floor. Since 2016, the historic cellar has housed St. Joris brewery.
