Burgemeester van Sonsbeeckpark
The Burgemeester van Sonsbeeckpark is a city park located in the Boeimeer district of Breda. The park is close to the city centre.
It was opened in 1936 by Mayor Willem van Sonsbeeck, who aimed to make Breda a 'park city'. The park is divided into nine different sections, each with its own atmosphere and character. There are open areas, water features, and natural play areas, for example. A significant part of the original design was reserved for sports. NAC Breda had its stadium here from 1940 to 1996. The natural swimming pool 'Het Ei' was closed in 1993 and replaced by Sonsbeeck Swimming Pool.
What makes Van Sonsbeeckpark unique is the presence of more than fifty different trees and the fact that volunteers are responsible for a large part of its maintenance!
