There are so many things that they don't tell you when you become a mother. Of course, there are stories about the period after giving birth: that you can lose hair in clumps, or that one in three women suffer from pelvic floor damage.

But motherhood is so much more complex than that; it is full of uncertainties and issues that may be much more fundamental, uncomfortable, and elusive: who am I? How do I rebuild myself? Is that even possible, or do I accept that I will be under construction for the next – what is it? – four, five, ten years?

Do I think too much about myself? Am I thinking enough about the baby? Or am I actually thinking too much about the baby and too little about myself, and who am I ultimately shortchanging? Welcome to motherhood is an intimate, physical performance in which three generations of women share what having a child meant for their own lives, dreams, and desires.

A personal show about control and letting go, about sometimes being harshly confronted by reality, and about the question of what life lessons mothers pass on to their children.
