Theatre performance 'De Jaren' at Chassé

Experience the power of women in "De Jaren", a breathtaking performance about change and emancipation.

Information

'De Jaren' is a performance featuring an all-female cast directed by Eline Arbo. Based on the European bestseller by Annie Ernaux, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature 2022.

In 'De Jaren', five actresses tell the story of one woman's life, against the backdrop of a rapidly changing world. She grows up amidst the rubble of the Second World War, breaks away from her middle-class background, and becomes a writer with sharp political and social awareness. Using photographs, songs, and news reports, she recounts stories of emancipation, womanhood, sexuality, class differences, and individual opportunities. Through loosely connected scenes, musical, joyful, and melancholic memories are evoked. By following one life, we witness the world changing. The hyper-personal history of a French woman thus becomes a universal biography of post-war Western Europe.
