Sit and lie concert Noorderbreedte

Experience the unique sitting and lying concert 'Noorderbreedte' by the CEO Women's Choir and the Arthema String Quartet featuring Scandinavian music in Breda.

Information

The CEO Women’s Choir is a continuation of the chamber choir Cappella ex Occasione. Since spring 2024, it has been under the direction of Sil van den Hout. They demonstrate how beautiful music sounds that is written for female voices.

The Arthema String Quartet is one of the most promising young string quartets in the contemporary music scene. Since its founding in 2017, it has performed in renowned venues and won the audience award during the Willem Twee Chamber Music Competition (2018) and the Asten Young Classical Awards (2019).

You are going on a journey: the countries of Northern Europe stretch over a vast area, larger than many of us can imagine. Music is a significant connector in these countries: music is a way to pass on stories and experience togetherness. Let yourself be carried away during the concert by the folk dances in the Sonderho bridal suite. The stirring accompaniment sounds like a storm at sea in Latvian folk songs. Concrete poetry, each word as a standalone entity, in the work of Pelle Gudmundson-Holmgreen. The endless sounds of Gjeilo and Nystedt, in which the intangible is brought closer. Lastly, the mass by Jansson, in which the familiar text of the Catholic mass is set to traditional Swedish musical dance forms. Music to immerse yourself in, in all its breadth.

The audience will have the opportunity to listen to the first part of the concert lying down to better appreciate the music. There are 50 ‘lying places’ available; those who wish to take advantage of this should bring their own mat. Chairs will be available for the second part. The entire concert can also be listened to while seated.
