Music theatre: Veenfabriek performs Lof der Zotheid
A hilarious musical performance for doomsayers and busybodies! De Veenfabriek breathes new life into Erasmus' satirical hymn of praise and turns the impending apocalypse into a celebration full of mockery, self-reflection, and joy.
Information
Contagiously comedic music theatre for pessimists and busybodies. Veenfabriek turns the impending apocalypse into a mess of fun. The performance is loosely based on Erasmus' satirical praise from 1511. Erasmus mocked citizens, merchants, clergymen, and all other ranks and classes of his time. Veenfabriek takes a light-hearted jab at groups of self-proclaimed egalitarians in ours. For hypocrisy and self-deception are timeless. And even now, we sometimes take ourselves too seriously and forget to laugh at the absurdity of life.
"In Praise of Folly unfolds as a pitch-black and cynical exercise in doomsaying, in a free jazz style, with recurring excerpts from Rutte's ominous and fearmongering speech as an anchor and the music as a driving force." - NRC ★★★★
"The theatre makers of De Veenfabriek have created inventive, sometimes confusing but very contagious music theatre from the announced apocalypse." - Volkskrant ★★★★
