Multatuli Lecture: the word as a weapon

Words matter. Words are used in politics, media, literature, and street language to form communities, express identity, and influence social change. The Multatuli lecture on 21 November 2024 has the theme The word as a weapon. Keynote speaker Marcia Luyten will share her insights during the lecture on how words shape the world around us. With her in-depth journalistic experience and knowledge of political rhetoric, she will address how language mobilises people or, conversely, divides them. In addition, Frénk van der Linden will engage in conversation with rapper Fresku, who reflects on the power of language in contemporary society from his own background and career.
