How has the soil of the former industrial area 't Zoet changed over the years, and who or what has influenced it? What stories can we uncover by delving into this natural archive? Have plants and animals been able to adapt to the polluted environment? In ‘Monsters van de bovengrond’ by Esther van der Heijden, we descend through the layers of soil and history, through a collage of performance, various perspectives, and stories.
 
Multimedia artist Esther van der Heijden focuses her work on the evolution and adaptability of organisms and ecosystems, as well as the effects of climate change on humans and animals. She investigates how different crises are interconnected by using stories to explore and understand ecological and social themes. Her work consists of films, sculptures, and costumes that come together in installations and layered video worlds.

For this project, Esther collaborates with soil remediation expert Koen van Rens, soil specialist John Vegt, and the Stadsarchief of Breda to uncover the hidden stories of the soil of 't Zoet.&nbsp; 

This project is part of KOPlopers. KOP (Artists Development Platform) links artists with experts outside their own field. Together, they develop an experience for the audience based on the expert's knowledge.
