In December 1878, Van Gogh moved at the age of 25 to the Walloon coal basin of Borinage. He was looking for a job as a preacher, but mainly for himself.
 After barely two years, he left the region again to attend drawing lessons at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels. What happened during this little-known period in the artist's life, and what caused such a major change?
