Information
At the invitation of the Vrije Boekhandel, Dr. Edward de Maesschalck is giving a lecture on his latest book ‘The Dukes of Brabant 640-1430’ Edward de Maesschalck has been in Breda several times as a guest of the Vrije Boekhandel to speak about his books, including ‘Oranje tegen Spanje’.
In 'The Dukes of Brabant', De Maesschalck takes us through the period in which Brabant and also Breda were formed, a very fascinating period that preceded the time when the Burgundians held sway in our regions. The book ‘The Dukes of Brabant’ is in fact a ‘prequel’ to De Maesschalck's previously published book; ‘The Burgundian Princes’ and the book ‘The Burgundians’ by Bart van Loo.

He worked for the public broadcaster in Belgium, where he first created historical programmes and was involved in the formation of Canvas as an advisor. He has written numerous historical works and is still today a tour guide for Davidsfonds Cultural Travels. He knows like no one else how to convey history and culture in an accessible and engaging manner.
