Keti Koti Conference at Chassé
Information
Wait a moment: a cabaret performance about the abolition of slavery? Exactly! Isn’t that a long time ago? It could be! Do I have nothing to do with it? Yes, you do! We all do. Because we simply live in the Netherlands.
More and more people are getting acquainted with Keti Koti, the breaking of the chains. An increasingly larger group even knows what it stands for: the day that the Netherlands abolished slavery. That is a celebration. For everyone. Because no reasonable person can be in favour of slavery. Much is still unclear. About how it happened. About what we are celebrating. And why it is still important today.
The creators of FATU, MC Jeffrey Spalburg and DJ Phantom, enjoy engaging with the audience. They have since become the longest-running comedy show in the Netherlands and know better than anyone how to connect with the audience in a hilarious yet meaningful way. Regardless of who is sitting in front of you.
In this comedy special, they are supported by the visuals and animations from VJ Bikkel, taking you from the present back while primarily looking ahead. What do we celebrate with Keti Koti? What does it stand for? What is the legacy of our colonial past today? How do we give it a place and, more importantly, how do we move forward together? Because the only way is forward. Know your past and be ready for the future.
Keti Koti Conference. It is time to break the chains and connect more with each other.
