IVN Natuurwandeling Goudbergven

On Sunday 2 March, the nature guides from IVN Mark & Donge will take you through a quiet area where gold miners and smugglers once roamed.

Information

Near the border with Belgium lies a pond that some call the most beautiful in Brabant. It is a small, but special nature reserve, situated between the Strijbeekse Heide and the valley of the Strijbeekse Beek. The pond is surrounded by a horseshoe-shaped drifting dune, a parabolic dune. In the middle lies a raised bog island, a floating island that rises and falls with the water levels.

In the 1950s, there were plans to convert this area into agricultural land. The dune was to be excavated and the pond filled in.  Staatsbosbeheer was able to purchase the unique area just in time, allowing the special nature to be preserved. Around the pond, we find forests with both deciduous and coniferous trees. Shrubs like sporkehout and gagel grow here, as well as plants that deserve our protection. Waterfowl, amphibians, and other animals thrive in this environment.

You walk through a quiet area. However, this does not mean that the nature guides cannot share information with you about the natural beauty you will encounter here or about what has happened in the past. Registration is possible up until the day of the walk. After registering, you will receive information about the departure location.
