IVN Nature Walk Mastbos

On Sunday morning, 1 December, the nature guides of IVN Mark & Donge will be walking through the ancient Mastbos. Although the forest is over 500 years old, it keeps up with the times. Originally, it was established for timber production, but primarily as a hunting ground for the nobility. Hunting is no longer practiced, and the focus is now on nature conservation and recreation. New insights have led to habitat restoration; fens and marsh areas have been re-excavated. In recent years, many old, uniform conifer plantations have been cut down. This is rejuvenating the old Mastbos, making it more varied and richer in different types of nature. In December, the trees are bare, and there is sometimes mist above the fields.
