IVN Nature Walk Galderse Heide

Soon, the nature guides of IVN Mark & Donge will be exploring the woods and heath. Not only in summer when the heather is in bloom, is this an attractive walking area; it is also appealing now in early autumn. The Galderse Heath is a semi-open and gently rolling landscape, largely planted with forest. In recent years, significant work has been carried out on the terrain: the overly nutrient-rich top layer has been removed, dried-up wetlands have been excavated, and a wide strip of coniferous forest has been cut down. This has cleared the way for greater diversity in plant and animal species. The heather vegetation has returned in some places, and a flock of sheep grazes the area several times a year. A wooden boardwalk has been constructed through the marshy heath. Due to these nature restoration activities, the Galderse Heath has improved significantly in recent years. Especially in the very rainy spring of 2024, it became a truly marshy area.

It can be muddy in this area after rainfall. Please ensure you have waterproof shoes or boots.
