IVN Family Walk Seterse Bergen
Join an adventurous treasure hunt through the Seterse Bergen with the nature guides of IVN Mark & Donge! During this walk for the whole family, you'll discover the hidden world of forest inhabitants through tracks such as paw prints, gnaw marks, and owl pellets.
Information
The nature guides of IVN Mark & Donge go in search of animal tracks and the whole family is welcome!
When they venture into nature, they always hope to have a brief encounter with a roe deer, come across a fox on our path, see woodpeckers flying from tree to tree, and spot squirrels jumping from branch to branch. In most cases, this does not happen. These animals are not at all eager for an encounter with the guides. They are shy and hide until those strange people have disappeared. However, during a walk, you can see countless signs that indicate the forest is teeming with little creatures.
Animals leave their footprints in the mud. They nibble or gnaw on pinecones, branches, and plants to fill their stomachs. When they eat, waste is produced, and they usually don't clean it up. Owls and other birds of prey regurgitate indigestible food residues in the form of pellets. Beetles create breeding chambers under the bark of trees.
The Seterse Mountains offer a unique landscape in our flat country: it is very hilly. The sand dunes create elevation differences of up to 10 meters. You will walk through forests and across heathlands. Thanks to the search for animal tracks, this walk is also very interesting for children. Maybe they will find tracking even more exciting than seeing the animals themselves.
Registration is possible until the day of the walk. After registering, you will receive information about the starting point. More information and the registration form can be found on the IVN Mark & Donge website under Activities.
