Gilde de Baronie: Guided Tours of Breda Castle

The Gilde De Baronie provides a guided tour of the grounds of the Castle of Breda, which is normally not open to visitors. The walk begins at the Baroniemonument, which symbolizes the arrival of the Nassaus in Breda.

Information

Guild De Baronie takes you back in time to the history of the city and the role of the Nassaus. The Baronie monument at the entrance of the Valkenberg serves as the starting point of the walk and also symbolizes the arrival of the Nassaus in Breda. Through the beautiful Valkenberg, the former castle garden, you walk across the Kasteelplein and the Cingelstraat to the Kraanpoort.

Next is a tour of the grounds of the Castle of Breda. Highlights include the House of Brecht, with the beautiful model of the original Renaissance palace, the Puffius room, the Dove and Grenadier towers, the Inner Courtyard, the Nassau Hall, the Parade, and the underground passage of the Egmond Gallery.

Note!

  • The tour takes place almost every Saturday. See below for the exact dates.
  • The route depends on the access options that Defence provides to the Guild at the time of the walk.

Stedelijk Museum Breda has a permanent exhibition on the Breda Nassaus. Here you will discover fascinating stories about this family, which was so important for the Netherlands. At the time the Nassaus lived in Breda, they were among the most influential families in Europe. Thanks to the interactive Family Trail, the Nassau exhibition is also great fun and educational for children.
