'Geruchten' by Theater Achterom at Podium Bloos

'Geruchten' dates back to 1990. It was written by the American playwright Neil Simon, who passed away in 2018. He was referred to as 'The King of Comedy' and is, according to statisticians, the most performed playwright after Shakespeare. A close-knit group of friends gathers at the country house of Charlie Kok to celebrate his ten-year wedding anniversary. Charlie is the faction leader of 'Together Forward', a political party making its first appearance in the elections for the House of Representatives. 

The first guests to arrive are Ben Noorman and his wife Kim. As they reach the halfway point of the driveway, they hear a gunshot. The front door is locked. Ben runs around the house and breaks a kitchen window to get inside. This is the beginning of a series of surprising but mostly entertaining events.

The theatre group Theater Achterom from Breda has existed in its current form for 30 years and has delivered a number of noteworthy productions during that time. In 2012, they even won the BN De Stem theatre award for their unique version of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream.
