Discover the exhibition Still Time at the Princenhaags Museum in Breda, featuring works by Hanneke Vinken, Jan Smekens, and Brenda Michielsen.

Information

Three artists have found each other in creating art and exhibiting it. This time, Jan Smekens, Hanneke Vinken, and Brenda Michielsen will exhibit at the exhibition space of the Princenhaags Museum in Breda with the exhibition "Stilled Time".

Hanneke Vinken
Hanneke Vinken (1957) lives in Princenhage. She studied at the art school in Arendonk and completed her specialisation in painting there. For Hanneke, painting is a matter of course. She is particularly drawn to nature as a subject, especially the nature close to home: the garden. She sees a constantly changing image there; beautiful flowers, but also the beauty of their decay. This repeating process of beauty and decay is captured by Hanneke in her paintings. A second beloved theme is the sea: the power of the water, the sound of the waves, and the play of light on the beach are passionately captured by Hanneke.

Jan Smekens
The second exhibitor is Jan Smekens (1963) from Rijen. He studied at the Academy for Visual Arts in Tilburg. Jan's work mainly consists of paintings centred around the theme of time. He looks at the present and reflects on the past, with both recent and older works. Windows serve as the starting point, providing a visual access to the inside and outside. Light plays an important role; the incidence of light creates a contrast between light and dark. Jan's work is often expressive in nature and contains some abstract elements.

Brenda Michielsen
Lastly, Brenda Michielsen (1975) exhibits as the third artist. This artist from Dongen has graduated from the St. Joost Academy with a focus on Graphics and Drawing. In her current work, waste material from leather forms the foundation of her creations. She has an affinity for the material and the history of leather in the region. Initially, images take shape as mosaics, later followed combinations with paint and glass. Brenda's work mainly consists of portraits of individuals who are lost in thought or overstimulated by the hectic life around us. The inner world is part of the image.
