Dan Croll in MEZZ
Information
The album 'Fools' reflects on recent events with warmth and humour to help Dan Croll decide which direction he wants to take. Five years after leaving his beloved Liverpool for sunny L.A., a spontaneous move that changed his sound, 'Fools' poses a fundamental question – is it finally time to come home?
'Fools' follows 'Grand Plan' from 2020, a hit that captured his first experiences with life in L.A. and traded in his synth-pop for sepia-toned folk rock with Laurel Canyon accents. On 'Fools', Dan addresses Covid, the end of an intense three-year relationship, the death of his grandmother, and rare trips home as restrictions are lifted. Musically, it spreads wider — country, disco, and woozy psychedelia join the nods to Carole King and James Taylor found in 'Grand Plan'.
