Aart Bergwerff & Wishful Singing present Canto Ostinato Immersive in the Great Church Breda.
After a series of concerts, Canto Ostinato Immersive is returning for a new tour at the request of many. The timeless beauty of Simeon ten Holt's masterpiece Canto Ostinato takes on a different dimension in Canto Ostinato Immersive. In this arrangement, the piano is replaced by the organ, played by organist Aart Bergwerff, along with the voices of the vocal ensemble Wishful Singing.
It offers an experience that invites introspection and stillness.
Timelessness
The piece Canto Ostinato by composer Simeon ten Holt is characterised by timelessness. "
When the concept of ‘time’ disappears and we repeat the patterns, there is only space left," explains Bergwerff. "
That space can be personal space, for your own thoughts and feelings. But perhaps also space for your neighbour, their way of life and beliefs. In the case of a performance on the organ, that space is also literal: the immense church space in which the organ resonates."
The repeating patterns of the music are enhanced by the natural reverb, approaching a sense of timelessness. As the space fills with organ sounds, the singers contribute vocally with vowels without text. Their voices blend with the organ tones and move through the audience, adding an extra dimension to the performance.
Great Church Breda
The Great Church provides a unique setting for this performance of Canto Ostinato. In addition to the presence of the organ, the size and acoustics of the church contribute to the experience of timelessness. The sounds of the organ and the voices merge in the space, giving the music a meditative character that invites reflection.
Lie-Down AreasThere are several lie-down areas available. Visitors are allowed to bring their own mats, blankets, and pillows.
Wishful Singing
Wishful Singing consists of five professional, passionate female singers with a unique sound, appearance, and drive. The ensemble gives concerts in the Netherlands, Europe, the USA, and Japan, singing everything that makes the heart race: from jarring dissonances and timeless folk melodies to funky harmonies, transcendent unison, and rhythmic craziness.
Aart Bergwerff is a driven and versatile musician. He loves exciting and adventurous programming. Aart has a passion for the classical repertoire, particularly that of Johann Sebastian Bach, while also seeking new paths and forms in organ culture. He frequently collaborates with video artist Jaap Drupsteen, for example in a production centered on Bach's Passacaglia. Furthermore, Aart created the performance 'East meets West' with Turkish dervish dancer Kadir Sonuk, to the music of Canto Ostinato by Simeon ten Holt. Another example is the production Mi Corazón, in which organ and tango dance meet.
