Widow Clicquot is based on the true story of the ‘Grand Dame of Champagne’ Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin.

At the age of twenty, she marries François Clicquot, heir to the famous Clicquot champagne empire. When François dies, widow (‘veuve’) Barbe-Nicole takes over the winemaking business and is determined to continue developing her husband's revolutionary innovations. Stricken by the seasons, competing winemakers, and the Code Napoleon, which prohibits her from running a business as a woman, the elegant widow must do everything in her power to protect the Clicquot legacy.
