Ginneken

Ginneken, referred to by locals from Breda as 't Ginneken, is the southernmost district of Breda and boasts a unique mix of shops, restaurants, nature, and dynamics. With the Ginnekenmarkt as its vibrant heart and the beautiful Markdal and Mastbos as its green jewels, 't Ginneken is a Burgundian area with surprisingly diverse facets.

Discover the best hotspots in 't Ginneken

Authentic Afghan cuisine? Or dining at a Michelin-starred restaurant? You can find both in 't Ginneken. We have listed the best hotspots in 't Ginneken for you.

Markdal

The Markdal owes its name to the river Mark, which flows from Merksplas in Belgium past Breda. In order to reduce flooding, the Mark has been allowed to return to its natural meandering course. The nature reserves along the banks help to absorb excess water. This allows nature to thrive.

From Duivelsbruglaan, a walking and cycling path runs along the river to the Belgian border. This makes the Markdal a wonderful walking and cycling area.

Mastbos

The more than 500-year-old Mastbos, created by Hendrik III of Nassau, is also known as the 'back garden of Breda'. You can enter the forest directly from Duivelsbruglaan! People from Breda, as well as many nature lovers from outside the city, use the forest for walking, cycling, exercising and relaxing, or simply to enjoy the nature.
It is a lovely walking area where stately beech avenues, beautiful ponds and expansive heathlands alternate with each other.
