The Breda Jazz Festival takes place from Thursday 29 May to Sunday 1 June and features twenty stages, each with its own atmosphere and program. Jazz enthusiast, socializer, or party animal? During the Breda Jazz Festival, everyone will find something to enjoy. What's your favorite spot?

Main Square

The Grote Markt is the beating heart of Breda. Also during the Breda Jazz Festival. Do you enjoy lively crowds and lots of terraces? Then you don't need to look any further because the music can be heard here from afternoon until late at night.

Sint Janstraat 

The small stage on Sint Janstraat is largely reserved for the DJs of De Zwarte Groef. They bring lots of vinyl to play before, between, and after the bands.

Veemarktstraat 

The square halfway along Veemarktstraat is mainly dominated by Latin music. This is your chance to immerse yourself in South American vibes. Do you enjoy a bit of salsa dancing? What are you waiting for?

Willem Merkxtuin

The Willem Merkxtuin is an undiscovered gem in the centre of Breda, a quiet garden behind the historic courtyard houses on Catharinastraat. Usually, you come here for peace and art. During the Jazz Festival, it is an intimate place where you truly go to enjoy the music.

Kasteelplein

This year again, two stages at Kasteelplein. Do you enjoy dancing? Then the north stage at Kasteelplein is your favourite spot! Here, a lot of swing is played for swing dancers like Lindyhoppers. You can even join a Lindy Hop workshop: Friday and Saturday 15:15-16:15, and Sunday 12:30-13:00.

At the south stage at Kasteelplein, you can enjoy traditional jazz, jazz blues, and boogie woogie.

Kerkplein

Rhythm & Blues, then Kerkplein. The stage between De Bruine Pij and the Grote Kerk is where many young people find their favourite bands. It can get quite crowded here. The spot is so popular among enthusiasts.
On Friday, the stage is reserved from 11:00-13:30 for school bands from various Breda secondary schools.

Winkelhof 't Sas

't Sas is one of those places that you just need to know how to find. A small shopping courtyard at the foot of the Grote Kerk. In the square in the middle of 't Sas, you'll find a real ‘listening pavilion’ for those who want to leave the busy festivities behind for a moment.

Havermarkt

The Havermarkt is the main nightlife square of Breda all year round, and during the Jazz Festival, it's no different. Surrounded by pubs and terraces, you'll enjoy non-stop spectacular acts here for four days.

De Haven

De Haven is a lovely place to stroll along the water and at the same time enjoy the lively atmosphere on the water and the music!

Spaniards' Gate

Speaking of spectacle! With the towers of the Spanjaardsgat as a historic backdrop, it’s a four-day celebration here. You need to come from good stock to command such a large stage, but the bands booked here have no trouble at all. And the audience? They create unforgettable parties on the pontoon by the Spinolaboot.

BAAI

BAAI is such a place by the water where it always feels like holiday. Just a little outside the centre, but easily walkable. On the stage at BAAI, mainly blues can be heard.

Tip: From BAAI, boats run to the Harbour and Park Valkenberg! 

Station / Willemstraat

The Breda Jazz Festival sets out a musical pathway for everyone arriving in Breda by public transport. Every day, there are walking bands in Willemstraat.
On Thursday, piano will be played in the station from 13.30-17.00 hours. 

De Avenue

For some concerts at De Avenue, one of the festival's indoor venues, you need tickets. But this is also where the crème de la crème performs. Such as on Saturday evening, when the world-famous Uros Peric pays tribute to Ray Charles.  

Tip: Following the Pluutjesparade for children, there is a special children's concert Jungle Book by the MayDay Jazzband on Friday afternoon. This band guarantees a musical celebration.

Waterstraat 5

Café Publieke Werken

Also Café Publieke Werken is one of the indoor venues at the Breda Jazz Festival. On Friday evening, you can listen to the legendary saxophonist Hans Dulfer with his band.

Grote Kerk Breda

An integral part of the Breda Jazz Festival is the gospel concert on Sunday morning. And where better to experience the inspiring power of gospel than in the iconic Grote Kerk? This year, it is up to Nicolle Rochelle, a Festival Surprise Band, and the Elijah Gospel Choir to give the audience goosebumps.

Brandpunt

For the concerts at Brandpunt, the Breda Jazz Festival collaborates with Sound Europe, a Breda-based organisation that loves surprising performances and original combinations. Sound of Europe is bringing modern jazz to the festival this year, a genre that has not been heard here before.

Stedelijk Museum Breda

That jazz appeals to young people is proven by the concerts at Stedelijk Museum Breda. Every day, students from the Fontys Academy of the Arts in Tilburg perform there in the Museum Café.

Boschstraat 22

Chassé Theater

In the lead-up to the festival, Chassé Cinema is screening three jazz films. On Saturday evening, the Chassé Theater will revive the iconic Parisian jazz club Chez Bricktop. With Muziektheater Transparant and pianist Claire Chevallier, Claron McFadden pays tribute to Ada Smith and her renowned club Chez Bricktop. An evening of American jazz and French music from the Parisian Roaring Twenties.
