Enjoy going for a swim in and around Breda
Plopping into nature
De Galderse Meren
If you are looking for a way to cool down on a hot day, then the Galderse Meren are the place to be. The area is located near the Mastbos and the Galderse Heide, and is named after the nearby village of Galder. It was created by sand excavations for the construction of the A16 motorway. Here you can enjoy swimming, diving, and even surfing if you like.
Tip: On beautiful weekends, it can be so crowded at the Galderse Lakes that you may not find a spot. You can check for current crowd levels via WhatsApp. Send the word 'update' to: 06 11 70 90 15. If the situation has not changed, you will not receive a response in the next WhatsApp message.
De Asterdplas
Sunbathing, swimming, surfing, sailing - you can do it all at De Asterdplas. Relax on the grass or on the sand, whichever you prefer. Also nice: the wet transitional area around the lake is home to many species of birds. Children can have a great time here!
De Kuil in Prinsenbeek
You can also head to Prinsenbeek to enjoy a day in the sun. Take a look at zwemwaterplas De Kuil. The swimming pool has a sunbathing lawn and a sandy beach. It's an ideal spot to relax on a sunny day, even with children.
‘t Zand in Alphen
Natuur- en recreatiegebied 't Zand is located to the northwest of the village of Alphen and borders the nature reserves Chaamse Bossen and Alphense Bergen. The name 't Zand is no coincidence: for centuries, there was an extensive sand drift here, as in many places in Brabant. Due to sand extraction, a waterbody was formed where you can swim, float, or sunbathe. Children can have a great time all day in or around the water. A great place to relax!
Indoor pool
Prefer to go to the swimming pool instead? In Breda, you'll find plenty of nice swimming pools to visit, even when the weather is not great. How about Zwembad Sonsbeeck (with both indoor and outdoor pools) or Zwembad Wolfslaar or Zwembad de Wisselaar?
