During the crossing from Morocco to Spain, three storylines intersect, connected by the fear of loss and the love of the characters for each other. Iris, Wouter, and their two sons are taking the ferry from Morocco to Spain, on their way home. The holiday has not resolved the relationship problems of the Dutch couple. Nevertheless, Iris and Wouter find one another in a moment of passion, but then their eight-year-old son Peter goes missing.

For the Moroccan ferry captain Bukhim, this crossing is different from the others. He is secretly taking his pregnant daughter Yamila to Spain with his wife, hoping for a better future for her and her illegitimate child. However, his daughter has other plans.

Luis and Raul, two Spanish coastguard officers, find a body in the Spanish port; one too many for Raul. He does not want to end up like Luis, cut off from all feelings. Luis, for his part, does not dare to pursue his love for Paloma. Desperately, the characters try to bridge the gap to one another. But their secrets travel with them and keep them trapped. The powerlessness to break free from this creates space for the inevitable. Fate changes the tide.
