Who can you admire?
Where once stood the huge silos of sugar factory CSM, a festival site with a huge silo where many works can be admired will arise for Breda Photo. On the outside appears the work of Mounir Raji who, with his work ‘Dreamland’, is the face of Breda Photo 2024. With Dreamland, Raji pays tribute to the Morocco of his dreams. He portrays the country where his family is from and where he himself, born and raised in the Zaan region, spent his summers from his earliest childhood. His work can also be seen during Breda Photo at De Kragt in Hoge Vucht.
Be surprised by the work of various photographers on the inside of the silo (access with tickets). A small selection from the wonderful selection in the silo:
- Joost Rutten is a Breda talent from the St Joost Art Academy . It is clear to him that people are becoming alienated from each other. Think of the growing gap between rich and poor, alienation from each other during the pandemic and crises in mental health care. His work has a heavy dose of humour and absurdity. Curious about Joost's story? You can read it here.
- Iran, a country where the law determines clothing, bans unmarried couples from sharing a hotel room and does not allow citizens to let out their pets, is a young generation of Iranians reclaiming their country by connecting with nature.
- Parisa Azadi's work presents a joyful image of a temporarily unbounded liberation. But even this fleeting freedom is threatened
- Omar Victor Diop's Diaspora series is a journey through time, revealing lesser-known stories about the role of Africans outside Africa. For this series, he focused on 15th- to 19th-century Europe and drew inspiration from examples of Renaissance and Baroque art.
Group exhibition Oxfam Novib:
Focusing on the stories of people living on the banks of these powerful rivers in Nepal and Bangladesh. These communities are constantly learning from the river, harnessing its benefits but at the same time having to adapt to the profound effects of climate change.
