PlaSTiEK Breda

Beams came to life through the circular creativity of PlaSTiEK Breda. PlaSTiEK Breda started processing plastic waste into plastic tiles. During this process, they quickly realised that not all hard plastics are suitable for the production of plastic tiles. With so-called polypropylene, no chemical bond can be made, making gluing impossible. So what to do with containers full of garden chairs and storage bins that were continuously delivered from the Breda environmental station and local thrift shops?

The experimentation phase at PlaSTiEk began. Not only did they build a large 3D printer to transform old CD cases into artistic vases and lamps, but PlaSTiEK also made steel moulds to fill with plastic. By heating the hard plastic to 200 degrees and injecting it into the mould under high pressure, a building block was created. In other words: beams! With the standardisation of the size and fastening with bolts and nuts, even the assembly is circular.

Located at STEK, in the heart of the creative hub of the Havenkwartier, PlaSTiEK Breda is right at home in its circular spot. Local waste plastic is processed locally and marketed locally by local people. Once the plastic is in Breda, PlaSTiEK keeps it there. Beams are reused and from the residual waste of tiles, new tiles are produced again. 

After almost two years of research and experimentation, PlaSTiEK Breda is ready to enter the market! Interior for tomorrow, a design studio from Breda focusing on sustainable and circular interiors, found their way to PlaSTiEK Breda for the furnishing of LOYA! A sustainable clothing store that recently opened its doors on Wilhelminastraat in Breda.
