Innovation District Breda
In the Innovation District, space is being created for technological and creative companies. This connects existing and new innovative and creative workplaces in Breda.
The aim
The innovation district is not a closed area, but rather a vibrant district with a mix of amenities and hospitality. The aim of this area? To stimulate innovation, create an attractive working environment, and attract new economy and talent.
Cultural entrepreneurs, regular makers, innovative entertainers, creative business service providers, and innovative creators are all welcome in Applied Technology & Creativity. Whether you are involved in robotics, AI, IT, media and marketing, events, gaming, VR, visual arts, or performing arts: the Innovation District Breda is the right place for you.
Sub-areas of the innovation district
The Innovation District Breda is a zone consisting of seven different sub-areas, each with its own character.
Harbour Quarter
The Havenkwartier is already an established name in Breda. You can find, among others, Pier15 and STEK. But this area is still very much under development! A Creative District is being built here. Everything is focused on cultural and creative entrepreneurship: from cultural creators and applied arts to product development and marketing. Creative students and artists will feel completely at home here. The Havenkwartier will also feature the new residential area Backer+Rueb, where you can live, work, and enjoy leisure activities.
't Zoet translates to 'The Sweet'
Where the sugar factory used to stand, a whole new area is now being developed. Entrepreneurs focusing on creative business services can find a place here, but also innovative entertainers and the gaming industry fit right in. Part of it is now set up as a park where you can already take walks, but the intention is to create a unique spot by the River Mark. There will be housing, but you can also work, stay, and recreate here.
Slingerweg area
When you mention Slingerweggebied, you mention robotics. Here you will find among others Breda Robotics, where talent is working on the technology of the future. With the Triple O Campus, there is already a vibrant community in this area with more than 100 companies operating.
Stations Quarter
The Stationskwartier is a vibrant place around the station of Breda. In no time, you can travel from Breda to Amsterdam, Antwerp or London. In recent years, significant progress has been made here; it all started in 2012 with the renovation of the station and the arrival of the surrounding apartments. In 2018, the Courthouse opened its doors on Stationslaan. However, the area is still under development. Currently, there is a lot of construction underway for the multifunctional complex 5 Tracks, where you can live and work. The IntercityHotel has also recently opened here. There are plans for various catering establishments to be established as well.
Chassé
In the coming years, the Koepelcomplex will transform into a vibrant destination that aligns with the contemporary dynamics of Breda. At present, the Koepel serves as accommodation for people from Ukraine. Together with volunteers in and around Breda, they have turned the cells of the old Koepel prison into a nice, clean home in a very short time.
The iconic 19th-century dome complex in Breda will undergo a transformation to become a future-oriented and, above all, accessible space for living, working, leisure, and culture.
In the same area (on Claudius Prinsenlaan) lies the B’WISE Incubator. The incubator is the hotspot where everything needed for a startup to grow quickly and successfully comes together; a one-stop-shop for startups. At B’WISE, they immerse you in the knowledge of startup entrepreneurship, offer the best startup programmes, provide access to a strong network, and assist you in attracting the funding that suits you.
