Breda has a rich history. This becomes immediately clear when you are in the city centre. The sights in Breda are for everyone! The tranquility of the Begijnhof, the impressive Grote Kerk, and the Stedelijk Museum. All just a stone's throw away from each other. Discover the most beautiful sights of Breda.

Valkenberg Park
The royal Valkenberg Park serves as the red (or green) carpet leading to all the beauty that the city centre of Breda has to offer. Until 1812, Valkenberg served as the castle garden for the Lords of Breda. In the past, the park was only accessible to the castle residents and their guests, but nowadays it is the ultimate meeting place for young and old. Look for the sun, or rather the shade of the ancient trees. Valkenberg Park is equipped with guiding lines and wide asphalt walking paths.

The Great Church
The eye-catcher of Breda: the 15th-century Great Church on the Grote Markt. Originally Catholic, but it transitioned into reformed hands after the iconoclasm. Nine Nassaus and the first Prince of Orange found their final resting place here. The Great Church of Breda is free to visit. You can explore freely, follow an audio tour (with headphones), and view the permanent exhibition about the Nassaus.

Stedelijk Museum Breda
Stedelijk Museum Breda is a great starting point if you want to experience and discover the history and art of Breda and its surroundings. Two permanent exhibitions, ‘The Nassaus of Breda – Castle, City and Land’ and ‘Ambition & Desire – Breda in the 19th Century’, provide a fresh and contemporary view of the history of the city and region. Thanks to the interactive family trails, these presentations are also worthwhile for young and old. The usual facilities in the Stedelijk Museum are also available for people with disabilities. There is a lift in the museum, allowing you to access all floors. On the ground floor, there is an accessible toilet.

The Beguinage
An oasis of calm in the heart of the city. The Beguinage wás established in 1267 and was originally located closer to the Castle of Breda. Because Count Hendrik III of Nassau wanted to expand the castle and garden, the beguinage was moved in 1534-1535 to its current location on Catharinastraat. Take a look at the Beguinage, where time seems to stand still.

Wheelchair Accessible Begijnhof

Breda from the water with the pleasure boat
Breda looks very different from the water. As you sail along the moat, it's immediately noticeable how green the city is. You can hardly believe that you are sailing right around the city centre. Pleasure boat company de Nieuwe Mark operates from the end of March to the end of October. One of the pleasure boats has a wheelchair lift. Want to make sure you can use it? Then call in advance at 06-20015533.

The murals of Blind Walls Gallery
The Blind Walls Gallery is a still-growing museum on the street. Throughout the city, you will find murals linked to a Breda story. You can explore the murals at your own pace or join an organised tour led by a guide.

To the Chassé Theatre
A lovely afternoon or evening out at the theatre? The Chassé Theatre does everything it can to make a theatre visit possible for people who need additional facilities. There are wheelchair spaces, an assistance system for the hearing impaired, and visually impaired guests can hire a theatre binocular. Specially trained guide dogs for the blind are also welcome.

To the cinema
The two main cinemas in Breda, Pathé at Chasséveld and Kinepolis  at Breepark use special apps Earcatch and Subcatch for guests with visual or auditory impairments. Both cinemas also have wheelchair spaces.

Also, Chassé Cinema has wheelchair spaces. The first floor, where the cinema halls are located, is accessible by lift. When reserving tickets, please mention that you would like to reserve a wheelchair space. Check the location pages for more information.
